Description
I painted both of these when I lived in Porto – these are the views from the window of the two apartments I lived in during my time there. The first one was in Largo da Lapa, where I didn’t live for very long, and the second was near the Rotunda da Boavista, where I lived for about a year.
View from Casa Verde: In the garden you can see me jumping rope, and my wife watering our vegetable garden next to our friend Anabela’s dog Bill. Beyond the run down building full of small brown birds, and the mechanics garage next door, you can see a huge jacaranda tree. To the right there is a cat. There are a few cats who live in the bushes at the other end of the garden. At night one of the women on the street leaves food for them in plastic tubs that she puts underneath the cars. And oon some days, when the wind is blowing in a particular direction, the air smells of the coffee roasters in Francos, about a 20 minute walk away.
