Who are you, where are you from and what do you make?

I’m Nancy of NOIT store, from Brighton, I knit & crochet everything I possibly can. But I’m a bit of a bag lady so have focused in that area. But couldn’t help myself with knitting a few baby hats for The Chuffed Store too.

What inspires you?

As most textile designers are, I’m interested in textures. I like working with different yarns and fibres to see what they can achieve texturally and structurally.

What is your workshop luxury?

It would be a luxury to have a workshop full stop. However, maybe the true luxury of knitting and crochet is it is so portable. I can create on the go and I am not restricted by any equipment.

Your favourite studio lunch?

 A halloumi and salady bagel

Best spot in the British Isles?

I’ve recently been to Cornwall for a week away and went to Kynance cove, it was the most beautiful blue water.

What do you find challenging about being a creative?

I love my craft and I get so wrapped up in the process but I struggle to find the motivation to actually sell the things I’ve created. Energy can be another challenge, as a full-time postwoman I start very early in the morning and I’m a crochet teacher too, so it can be hard to cram it all in.

What would you like to learn next?

There is so much to know about knitting and crochet that I’ll never know it all but I like taking one step at a time. Following other designers knitting patterns always finds you new methods and techniques to learn.

How do you let your hair down?

I’ve made some new friends recently who also knit and crochet so it’s been really nice spending time crafting with them. But what I really love is going for walks on the South Downs with my dog.

What are you listening to at the moment?

Urgh Gad I don’t actually listen to much music. But when I do it is mainly funk/soul/jazz vibes. Khruangbin, Ebo Taylor, Idris Muhammad and I found an old Robbie Williams CD in the canteen at work so that’s been playing in the car.

What makes you feel well chuffed?

Being able to make things from scratch. Seeing the journey of a ball of yarn progress into a bag or jumper is just super satisfying.

What is your fave recipe?

I am really enjoying beetroot and feta pasta with walnuts at the moment.

Who is your biggest inspiration?

Barbara Hepworth, her use of shapes and textures in the various materials is great. I visited her gallery/garden in St Ives and it was so nice to be able to walk amongst all her sculptures in a natural environment.

What is your fave item on The Chuffed Store?

I am a proud owner of some Couper et Coudre and Amelia Christoffers pieces.

Spring summer autumn or winter?

Winter, I’m a knitter after all so in the comfort of yarn and my ever growing hand knitted jumper collection.

Obviously potato, the possibilities are endless. Pepper and tomatoes maybe.
