My name is Kitty Pennybacker, I’m based in North Yorkshire where I work with a domestic knitting and cording machine to make wall hangings, throws, scarves and baby blankets.
My inspiration around all my work comes from the fabrics I grew up around in the British countryside, from navy Guernsey jumpers, tartan scarves, wool picnic blankets and tweed jackets. I’ve become really interested in creating a new twist on these fabrics, using knitweaving to bring a textured element to my knitting, taking hints of patterning from tartan.
Having a workshop at home in the countryside and a desk in at Pica studios in York, where I am able to connect with other artists and makers.
Shared picnic of cheese and salad and leftovers at Pica.
Clovelly, North Devon.
Every day is different which means there is not time to just relax, you always have to be very focused and think about using your time very wisely.
I would love to learn to spin my own yarn that I could then knit with.
I love going round a car boat sale looking for antiques or riding in the countryside.
A lot of podcasts such as The Daily, Up With The Lark, Table Manners.
When someone buys something from me and tells me how much they love it. It’s the best feeling as a maker.
