Hello, my name is Katja Huth, and I live in Bristol. I am a multidisciplinary artist and best known for my collage art.
I am inspired by most everything midcentury and like to fill up my battery with swims and hikes in the countryside.
I am a bit nutty for stationery, and I appreciate my super pointy OLAF cutter knife and acid-free Zig Glue stick.
Low carb and high protein foods work best for me. Steak and eggs sound great.
Oh, Dartmoor for me probably. I have everything there, water, moody landscapes, roaming animals, and ancient woodlands full of fern and moss.
You will also find me in South Cornwall, Black Mountains and Snowdonia. I am lucky to be in Bristol with such gorgeous landscapes nearby.
Procrastination, I can procrastinate about things I actually love to do. So I have to trick myself into getting started.
The other tricky thing is showing your new work for the first time. But there is no point in making artwork and then hiding it from the world. The purpose is to touch peoples hearts and imagination; showing up is part of the artist’s job description.
I love to learn. It’s my favourite thing to do.
I want to make abstract acrylics and also teach myself how to become good at surface pattern design.
I like to relax on the sofa with my teenage son. We love to get stuck into a movie series.
I am also an outdoor swimmer and collect fossils and Mudlark.
I enjoy Lo-fi playlists on Spotify and podcasts. One of my favourite ones right now is ‘Ologies’ with Alie Ward. It’s a great mix of all the sciences/-ologies. Very brainy and entertaining at once.
What makes me real chuffed are the fantastic collages people make at my Bristol-based Collage workshops.
I have been known to have a little blub like Keith Brymer Jones from the ‘The Great Pottery Throw Down’.
I usually run ‘Carefree Collages’ at three Bristol locations and hope to inspire a creative and mindful me-time for adults.
Also watch out for more online collage clubs coming up soon.
