Glazed earthenware tile, 4″x4″
Each tile has been painted with cobalt underglaze. I have hand-drawn and used a sgraffito technique to scratch the surface of the underglaze to create the image.
Tiles are glazed and can be grouted onto walls or kept as beautiful pieces.
This tile depicts the Ancient Greek Sibyl, who wrote prophecies on oak leaves which she hung in the mouth of her cave. If the wind disordered her leaves, those seeking the Sibyl’s wisdom were compelled to guess the meaning of her words.
This tile has a small dimple in the glaze, which will not affect it adversely and is part of its hand-made charm.
